country life Island Life - December 2010 Michael Cass A great day for the guns The annual Pagham Shoot is proving as popular as ever this season, with organiser Chris Brown saying: “Overall it has been a great success.” The shoot began 12 years ago with guns covering a 2,000-acre site around Pagham, Merstone and Arreton, with neighbouring land at Perreton and Birchmore also used. Around 5,000 red-leg partridges are released on to the land towards the end of July, with the shoots usually commencing on the first Saturday of October and continuing through until the end of Mick Brown 120 January. Four let days are available to gun teams for a day’s shooting early in the season, with syndicate shoots taking place on Saturdays, and four days sold cheaper to members when the bird numbers diminish in January. Chris said: “Special thanks must go to keeper Malcolm Clayton and his family, as well as the many helpers, for keeping the shoot going, and making it so successful.” Kenny Morris Howard Yates Visit our new website - www.visitislandlife.com
