to southern England between
October and March. It likes
tidal estuaries for the eelgrass
and seaweed. The geese appear
to commute on a daily basis
from Keyhaven and Pennington
marshes to the Western Yar.
They make a great sight with
a cacophony of sound; but I
find that it is best to view them
from the side of their flight
path, not underneath!
The breakwater helps to
protect Yarmouth town,
Yarmouth harbour, the Western
Yar estuary, and our plants and
animals. However, the existing
breakwater will not last much
longer. A new breakwater is
necessary and needs to be
higher to defend everything
from the rising sea level. This is
predicted to increase by about
one metre by 2100.
