Twelve years ago she moved from

chain of mail-order shops, to the Isle
of Wight, to buy land on which to
rescue animals. Today the dilapidated
outbuildings of the farm she bought
in Brighstone are refurbished and
have become a haven for animals
which once were extremely neglected
or ill-treated.
“They have a home forever with
me,” she says, “and they get
24-hour care. Elvis the cockerel had
been brought into Heathrow illegally.
