life EQUESTRIAN - Sponsored by Brickfields and Froghill Tack Opening Meet Photos by John Found The Opening Meet of the Isle of Wight Hunt was held once again in the glorious grounds of Westover Park, Calbourne, by kind permission of the new owners, Mr and Mrs Weeks, who had moved into Westover just days before. The meet held on 1 November signals the beginning of the trail-hunting season, which runs until mid March. Unlike previous years, when the weather has dawned cold and bright, this year rain was sheeting across the park, but many small children under five years old braved the wet weather, hunting for the first time and led by enthusiastic parents. Ms Arrabella Lloyd-Jones (3) was clearly enjoying herself in spite of the rain (bottom right). A field of around 30 mounted members and 50 foot-followers enjoyed Mr and Mrs Weeks' 82 kind hospitality. Field Masters for the day were Mr Malcolm Purcell MFH and Ms Karen Begley, whose mother Wendy is the Hunt Treasurer, and sister, Mrs Sharon Waghorn, who was escorting a child on a lead rein (middle left). Mr Purcell gave a speech thanking Mr and Mrs Weeks for their generosity and the landowners and keepers on whose support the Hunt relies. He also welcomed several visitors, who were hunting with the pack for the first time. The Island's new funky radio station www.wightfm.com
