INTERVIEW
He clearly is not short of ambition,
but one of them is to have a little
rock band. He calls himself the
Piping Hot Doc – it is well worth
checking him out on YouTube – and
would now love to get together with
a guitarist and a drummer. “A singer
might be rather drowned out,” he
says, in response to my rather daft
suggestion.
You can’t help wondering whether
he sometimes wants the world to
stop so he can jump off. Balancing
so much travel and calls on his time
and skills with a day-job which is
itself so demanding must seem too
much at times. “No, I never tire
of it,” he says. “My 12-year-old
daughter Megan is learning, and is
looking forward to going on gigs
with me.” And then, adopting his
doctor’ s hat: “It gives you a good
cardiovascular workout, too.”
So as Christmas turns into New
Year, and Hogmanay approaches,
think of the doctor constantly on
call to pipe in the haggis.
