WIGHTFM
Exciting new radio
station for the Island
Why are so many listeners deserting local commercial
radio? Is it the reverse text auctions, network shows or
money generating mobile phone quizzes?
An exciting new radio station featuring
all your old favourites (Andy Shier, David
Doc Holmes, Foxie, Jessie, Justin Gladdis,
Meridian Dave and that girl in the office),
will be launched on the Isle of Wight 09.
wightFM will be initially launched on the
internet and will be available to listen to live
via the web address www.wightfm.com.
wightFM will also be available through
Wi-Fi radio. You can purchase Wi-Fi radios
from various outlets across the Island, which
will include wightFM's new studio based
at Spithead Business Centre, Newport Road,
Sandown. (Opposite Morrisons, Lake).
So what is Internet radio? It's the big new
thing in radio. Internet radio reaches out to
the world, so wherever you are in the world
you can listen to your favourite station,
simply by typing in our web address www.
wightfm.com. Once on the site you can
listen live, catch up with the latest news
from Justin, or listen to a show that was
broadcast earlier that day or week on-line or
as a podcast.
Station director Martin Potter commented
"I am so excited that we have managed
to pull together a radio dream team from
the Island. It will be like the good old days,
we plan to introduce a phone-in with the
Island's biggest phone-in name and The Doc
with guest appearances from Foxie, Meridian
Dave and some great mystery guests.
"Because we are broadcasting via the
internet and Wi-Fi radio we have given
complete freedom to ensure the phone-in
has more edge and is bigger and better this
time round, everyone on the island will be
tuning in between 11am - 3pm, it will be a
show that can't be missed.
"I am also happy to announce that Andy
110
Shier will be back with a great 80's show,
Andy was a popular Island presenter who
has recently taken a job at Wave 105.
We've also got some big radio legends
joining the day time line up, but no details
can be announced yet.
Wi-Fi radio is in its infancy but is earmarked
to be the everyday media which within a
years time everyone will be listening to. It
will be next years "in" Christmas present,
and wightFM want to be a market leader.
Some of radios biggest names are already
turning their back on the old FM format and
choosing Wi-Fi as the future. Tommy Boyd at
PlayUK is one example.
Currently you cannot listen to wightFM
in the car, but it's not the end of the world
as you can catch-up on the days events as
soon as you get home. The BBC iPlayer is
fast becoming the way people watch TV, and
Wi-Fi and internet radio will follow next year.
