Local scene
A night at
the opera
A touring opera company brought
their talents to Osborne House in
July, for two memorable open-air
performances.
Opera Brava presented everybody’s favourite
opera, ‘Carmen’ on the first evening, and followed
up with an atmospheric Candlelit Opera Gala,
featuring classic favourites such as “Nessun
Dorma”, plus numbers from Die Fledermaus, West
Side story and the Gilbert & Sullivan operas.
Singers from English National Opera, Covent
Garden and International Opera houses were
among those performing.
Music director, Robert Botlriel, born and bred on
the Isle of Wight, was especially excited about the
weekend - something of a homecoming for him:
“I’ve always wanted to find a way to come back to
the Island and bring Opera with me, and this was
the perfect opportunity”.
