Challenging the Wight
‘Challenge the Wight’ is in its third year, the event
organised by young people’s charity Challenge &
Adventure. The difference in this year’s event is that
it’s being reversed, starting at the Needles Park and
finishing at Yaverland, Sandown.
Taking place on Saturday 3rd September it is a
strenuous 26 miles across the Island from the Needles
Park to Yaverland Car Park. This will be walked through
the night starting at 10pm and finishing at Yaverland
between 7am - 10am on the Sunday, so this is not for
the faint hearted. However there is a chance of walking
half the route, finishing at Carisbrooke Castle, 14 miles.
The event is fully marshalled with front and back
walking marshals and static marshalling points across
the route and off road vehicles covering inaccessible
points with first aid cover.
Entry fee is £25 for adults and £15 for children, we
recommend the child be over 10 years and must be
accompanied with an adult, there are group rates
available.
Each walker is given a Challenge the Wight t-shirt,
and they will receive a medal on completion kindly
sponsored by Isle of Wight County Press. At the finish
each walker will be greeted by a bacon bap and a hot
drink.
Anyone interested in registering can go to
our website www.challengethewight.com,
telephone 01983 527026 or email karen@
challengeandadventure.org.uk.
Sponsor forms will be provided for those wishing
to raise additional sponsorship for Challenge &
Adventure, which would be very much appreciated.
The Autumn walking weekend
This years autumn walking weekend will be taking
place from October 21 - 24. Enjoy footpaths that wind
through fields and forests, and the 64 miles of coast
paths adjacent to some of the Isle of Wight’s most
dramatic coastline and beaches. The Autumn Walking
Weekend signifies the end of a wonderful summer
season, and gives you the opportunity to breathe in the
beautiful scenery, autumnal colours and fresh crisp air
which the Island has to offer.
The walks are for all ages and abilities, all led by
friendly and knowledgeable Leaders and Ramblers,
who will take you on a journey of mystery, intrigue and
exploration as you traverse our countryside, woodland,
pastures, meadows and footpaths of the Island.
