MOTORING
SsangYong Korando
to clean out your bank account, as the
entry level model starts at just £12,950
OTR to the top of the range 4 wheel drive
at £19,500 OTR. A bargain.
Driving the Tivoli is not going to set you
on fire, but for the money it performs
adequately, and is a pleasant drive.
Next in the offering is the Korando,
which has moved on considerably since
its release in 2005. This is Ssan Yong’s
mid-range vehicle, slightly larger than the
new Tivoli, and a real workhorse.
Not for nothing was it voted Tow Car
of the Year in 2014 by the Caravan Club.
Towing two tonnes with this SUV is a
doddle. We all know that farmers are a
shrewd bunch, so it’s no surprise that they
are buying this model by the dozen. Why?
Price and warranty mean it makes sound
financial sense, with the base model
starting at only £14,995 OTR going to the
top-level trim at £22,000 OTR.
This vehicle is also available on the
Mobility scheme with just an advance
payment of £299.
Engines are a 147bhp or 173bhp
2.0-litre diesel, although the latter is
available only in range-topping ELX4
form, which has on-demand fourwheel drive and a six-speed automatic
gearbox. We’d go for the lower-powered
engine with its standard six-speed
manual gearbox.
Lastly but by no means least, there’s
the Turismo. There’s barely anything
else on the road that can carry this many
people with this much space to spare for
their bags. What’s more, it’ll cost many
thousands of pounds less than any of
its rivals, and it still comes packed with
accessories and equipment like heated
leather seats. Unlike a lot of MPV models,
it’s also available with four-wheel drive,
making it a fantastic tow car.
The car is also great for three good
reasons: 1. Price. 2. Warranty. and 3.
Durability. I suppose if you have a troop
of kids like the Von Trapps and you’re on
a budget then look no further: for mum,
dad and five lively kids, it makes the
perfect vehicle.
On a serious note this also has to be a
win-win for everyone. Unlimited mileage,
and five-year warranty make it a dream.
Add in the fact that it boasts seven proper
seats, and it’s a winner.
Staddlestones said “We have already
sold a few of these to local taxi drivers
and they are absolutely delighted with
the vehicle.”
