It’s carnival time!
F
amous for its quirkiness
and the legendary Ventnor
Comic Jazz Band, Ventnor
Carnival hits town in the same
week as Ventnor Fringe.
Wednesday night (August
12) is the main carnival
procession, starting at 7pm,
going twice around the town,
followed by fireworks at around
9.30pm from the seafront. The
Children’s Carnival procession
follows the same route from
12pm and Saturday night
(August 15) is the illuminated
procession, which starts at 9pm.
Monday August 10 from noon
at St Catherine’s church are
contests to find the bonniest
baby, town criers, tiny tots,
glamorous grannies and
the Holiday Princess and on
Tuesday (August 11) there’s
Scrufts Dog Show at 2pm in
Ventnor Park.
Ooh argh!
Pirates at
The Spyglass
B
y some stroke of
luck, this year’s
International Talk Like
A Pirate Day falls on the
same weekend as The
Spyglass Inn’s ‘Songs Of
The Sea’ festival so there
will be some serious
skulduggery happening
around the weekend of
September 19/20 at this
popular seaside pub.
This will be the third
year of the folk music
festival at the Spyglass,
Ventnor, featuring music
with more than a splash
of salt water. The fact
that Saturday happens
to be International Talk
Like A Pirate Day is the
perfect excuse for
anyone who wishes
to put on an eyepatch,
a stripy top and a pirate
bandana.
Profits raised from
The Spyglass Inn
Songs of the Sea
Festival will go to local
RNLI charities.
