Pedal on over!
I
t’s only been open since Easter,
but word has already spread far
and wide about the great little
Pedallers Café at Newchurch.
Launched by ex Shanklin hoteliers
Emma and David Hughes, the cosy
venue is located right on the Isle of
Wight’s popular cycle route, recently
re-named the Red Squirrel Trail.
“When we moved out here we
couldn’t believe there was no
refreshment stop on the whole cycle
route, so we decided to set about
filling the gap!” said Emma.
With some grant funding from
Bicycle Island, the couple converted
a former garage building and kitted
out the café with bi-fold doors
and a log burning stove to make it
welcoming in all seasons. They also
added lots of bicycle parking and
even a bike repair station.
“We wanted to create a unique
little spot where people can take
advantage of the sunshine in
summer and come in from the cold
in winter” said Emma.
Whilst the café has particular cyclist
appeal, you don’t have to be a cyclist
to enjoy its home-made cakes, great
quality coffee and New Forest Ice
Creams. In fact it’s a popular haunt
for walkers and dog owners too.
There’s also a good lunchtime menu
of light snacks, filled baguettes and
paninis, all freshly prepared on site.
Emma and David are both keen
cyclists themselves, but now running
a B&B business along with seven days
a week opening at Pedallers, they
don’t get on their own bikes quite as
often as they’d like to these days!
The café is open from 10am –
5pm daily and is definitely worth
a visit. Tel: 864579. Email: in f
