25 years
of dental progress
R
obert (Bob) Baker joined the
Sandown Dental Practice when
he came to the Island in 1989,
and over that time, he has seen many
patients grow up and return with their
own children.
Now a busy general Dental Practice, the
Sandown surgery caters for patients all
ages, with particular emphasis on disease
prevention and oral hygiene – enough to
keep four hygienists busy!
The practice also has an excellent
reputation for complex dentistry, with
dental technician back-up on the Island,
offering everything from dental implants
and bone grafting to hard and soft
tissue augmentation to assist implant
placements, cosmetic dentistry, crowns
and veneers, and more recently, adult
orthodontics.
Bob says he became interested in
dental implants in 2010, as more patients
were requesting this option to replace a
missing tooth, and wanted the treatment
in Sandown, not elsewhere.
With oral surgery experience in London
soon after qualifying as a dentist at the
Royal London hospital, he embarked on
his first Dental Implant Course in London
in September 2010.
As his interest in the field grew, Bob
travelled the UK for courses in more
specialised techniques such as bone
grafting, bridges and same day teeth.
He also studied advanced implant
techniques at both Frankfurt and
Tubingen Universities in Germany.
In 2013 he enrolled on the UK’s gold
standard implant programme, the Post
Graduate Diploma in Implantology at the
Royal College of surgeons, a two-year
MSc that he completes in July this year.
Bob now offers a free 20-minute
consultation for interested patients. This
is not a dental exam, but a quick guide to
solutions for each patient’s situation, with
an idea of the cost. This allows patients to
consider the options without obligation,
and return if interested.
