Toyota Aygo
Test driven on the Island by Peter White
It’s funky, it’s fun to drive, and the all new
Toyota Aygo is bound to win over a whole
new generation of drivers. The recent
launch represented the first change in
the Aygo since it was introduced to our
roads nine yeas ago. And there is no
doubt it will be a big winner.
There are five different models to
choose from, but basically it is a case of
‘build your own’ and see which one suits
you. The basic model is the compact
Aygo x which comes in at just £8,595,
and then the range graduates to the Aygo
x-play, Aygo x-pression, Aygo x-cite and
finally the Aygo x-clusive. So you can add
what you want, and then stop when you
have found the extras you require.
I drove the five-door hatchback x-cite,
courtesy of Wight Motors, College Close,
Sandown, and it really does stand out
from the crowd, with its Orange Twist
exterior paint finish and gloss black
doors handles and mirrors. There is
plenty of room for four in the cabin,
which continues the orange and black
theme, and the slightly elevated front
seating position allows for a clear,
uninterrupted view.
The drive is comfortable, and because
it is a small, light car, the one-litre engine
provides ample power. And with such low
CO2 emissions, there is the added bonus
of zero road tax.
The 15-inch gloss black alloy wheels,
with orange centre caps, add to the
funkiness, and the welcome additions
include true x touch multimedia system
with its seven-inch colour touch screen,
DAB digital radio and rear-view camera.
The all -new Aygo is certainly eye-catching
and is sure to impress the younger drivers
looking to buy their first car.
