BUSINESS LIFE Make sure of a regular tyre check Wisteria Gallery 22 High Street, Wootton Bridge, PO33 4PE t. 01983 882980 w. www.wisteriagallery.co.uk U nder-inflated vehicle tyres can overheat and lead to blowouts. In a recent survey 28 per cent of respondents admitted not knowing legal minimum tyre tread. NFU Mutual encourages horse box owners to make a PACT to remain ‘tyre safe’. High temperatures aggravate any existing damage to tyres. Underinflation adds to the problem causing friction and more heat which can prove too much for weak spots, causing punctures and blow-outs. John Heather, Senior Agent at NFU Mutual on the Isle of Wight, said: “Tyres are the only part of the horse box or trailer in contact with the road surface and safe acceleration, braking, steering and handling are all dependent on correctly maintained tyres.” NFU Mutual is encouraging owners to make a PACT to check the tyres on their horse box or trailer: P: PRESSURE - check ALL tyres when they are cold before every journey. A: AVOID - overloading your horse box or trailer. Overloading can cause overheated tyres, rapid wear and increases chances of a blow out. C: CONDITION - check your tyres regularly especially if they have not been used for some time. T: TREAD DEPTH - check regularly. Up to 3.5 tonnes, the minimum legal tyre tread depth is 1.6mm. 140 www.visitilife.com Moreys Trafalgar Road, Newport, PO30 1RT t. 01983 525111 w. www.jewson.co.uk Wisteria Gallery H aving been in the picture framing industry for nearly 40 years, Paul Jacobs of Wisteria Gallery, 22 High St, Wootton Bridge, has seen many changes. Gone are the days of dark brown frames with the bright gold sight edges and the uninteresting profiles that adorned the walls of many a house. They have been replaced by warm natural woods with washes of colour or just left in their natural state. Customers today are much more involved with the framing of their much loved art work and wish it to complement their interior décor. Paul Jacobs said: “On the Island we have an affinity with the sea and many wish to bring this sentiment into their homes. Use of unfinished moulding with soft colours and washes applied in our workshop makes each picture more personal. We have embraced technology to assist us with each part of the process.” “Many framers have retired from the high street not to be replaced and as a result we are dealing with a much larger volume of work. In today’s ever changing market place Wisteria prides itself on still being able to give individual advice to each customer to ensure that the final result will be as good as they imagined if not better. “We have worked with many high profile artists and galleries, each with their own definitive style which need to be complemented with the correct frame. While a picture frame itself is unlikely to be considered art, we do like to think of our picture framing as ‘the art of presentation’.” Moreys A name that has been synonymous with Island business, dating all the way back to the 1860’s, has recently undergone a brand makeover. Morey’s has been selling timber and allied products since its conception and has remained locally owned up until 1997, when the three local branches where acquired by Jewson. It was only two years ago that the dual branding of Jewson Morey’s started to appear across the network of local branches and has now increased it’s number to four, including the previous Harcos in Medina Avenue, Newport. Gone are the days of Jewson Morey’s just supplying timber. The business is now able to offer everything you need to build a property from bricks, blocks and chimney’s, through to kitchens, bathrooms and heating systems too. Jewson Morey’s also has a team of knowledgeable and dedicated staff across all of the branch sites across the Island. The group recently acquired the national chain of Build Centre’s business. The Newport Build Centre is branded as JEWSON in tandem with the other four branches. This enables the company to further the products on offer, with a full range of roofing and civil engineering items as well as general building goods. Plus don’t forget the third Jewson Tool and Plant Hire on the Island. The future is bright with the group still dedicated to selling a range of quality products and providing a first class service, not only to builders and 6
