ON THE WATER
Dancing at
Duver
Over 440 people danced
away the night at Dance the
Duver, raising a provisional
amount of £3,300. All
profits from the event will
be split between the Earl
Mountbatten Hospice and
the Bembridge Lifeboat
Station. Entertainment was
provided by an 11-piece
band, UnderCover who have
played since it started eight
years ago. A second band was
added this year, an Island
based duo, That’s Life.
Half the tickets this year
were purchased by visitors
visiting the marina. This
year the event was moved
to coincide with the 50th
Anniversary celebrations
for Bembridge Harbour normally it is a stand-alone
event. The event has been
held in the boatyard for
Will Squibb Boatbuilders
for the last five years, after it
outgrew the Duver Marina
car park where it had
previously been held.
The event is organised by
father and son team, Will
and Andy Squibb, who
respectively provide the site
and the stage/sound/lighting
equipment. Both also play in
the band Undercover.
A number of suppliers
provided equipment for the
event at reduced rates, some
completely free for which we
are very grateful. Suppliers
are Will Squibb Boatbuilders
(site), Spyder UK (stage),
Desktop Studio (printing),
Nigel Bennet (fencing),
Bembridge Sailing Club
(barbeque facilities) and
R&R Trailers (toilets).
This year's fireworks
display was sponsored
by Bembridge Harbour
Authority. Although
the event normally has
a fireworks finale to the
evening, this year’s display
was considerably larger than
usual.
