All smiles at Bembridge Harbour

Bembridge Harbour recently
held a celebration weekend to
mark 50 years since an Act of
Parliament took the harbour
into private ownership.
The celebrations began at
the Bembridge Sailing Club
where Guest of Honour HM
Lord-Lieutenant of the Isle of
Wight, Major General Martin
White CB CBE JP and his wife
Fiona, attended a cocktail party
with guests from the local
community.
Harbour owner Malcolm
Thorpe welcomed guests
and introduced Lizette van
Niekerk from the principal
event charity Sail 4 Cancer
who gave a short presentation.
Local charities benefiting
from individual events over
the weekend were Bembridge
RNLI, the Earl Mountbatten
Hospice and the Isle of Wight
Historic Lifeboat Trust.
