In the space of just a few days Earl Mountbatten Hospice has won a national award from the Charity Retail Association and Mike Hayward, a Fundraising Events Volunteer, won the Isle of Wight Radio Local Heroes ‘Volunteer of the Year’ Award. At the 12th Annual Charity Retail Association Awards the Hospice won the ‘Innovation in Charity Retailing’ award for their Prison Products project, beating 16 other charities of all sizes and types across the UK. This is the second award the Hospice has received for its Prison Products project, winning 32 www.visitislandlife.com the ‘Most Inventive Hospice Retail Initiative’ at the Help the Hospices Retail Awards in May 2013. Mike Hayward was presented with his award at the Local Heroes Award ceremony in Cowes. This award recognises someone who has given their heart and soul to an Isle of Wight Charity and Mike was nominated for this category by Judith Stratton and Karen Eeles from Earl Mountbatten Hospice for his unique supporting role for many years as part of the fundraising team.
