New look for The Stag
The Stag, which stands prominently
on the road between Newport and
Cowes, is under new ownership and
has recently reopened after undergoing
a major refurbishment.
The Stag has been acquired by
Martin Bullock’s Inns of Distinction,
which already has several highly
successful pubs across the Island.
The refurbishment includes four new
en-suite bedrooms; a new commercial
kitchen and a new bar; removal of
inner walls and the creation of a new
entrance porch.
Martin said: “We have also turned
the ageing conservatory into a new
garden room with views over the
river medina and the surrounding
countryside. We have created a
new dining venue on the fringes of
Newport and just a short journey from
Cowes.
“While there are many small
restaurants and a few pubs in the area
we felt there was a need for a quality
pub dining venue that offers a trade
mark style and consistency, using the
majority of local Island produce.”
The head chef is Sean Jeffers who
worked for Martin for many years at
The New Inn, Shalfleet, and for 18
months at The Fishbourne. Joining
him in the engine room is Mark Avis
who also worked for many years at The
New Inn
