Sweet smell of success
at the Garlic Festival
The Island’s Garlic Festival is
recognised as one of Britain’s
Top 10 Food Festivals, making
the organisers even more
determined to bring visitors the
best the Island has to offer at the
Newchurch event which is on
August 17 and 18.
At the heart of the Garlic
Festival is Britain’s best most
pungent garlic, produced in
Newchurch by the multi-award
winning Garlic Farm. But it’s
not just a load of garlic and
amazing garlic products. Island
food compares with the world’s
best; meats, vegetables, cheese,
honey, wine, cider and juices. An
expanded cookery demonstration
area will be a bigger part of this
year’s show.
A huge stage will feature ‘Secret
Affair’ and Chesney Hawkes
performing along with some
of the best local bands. Stage
two features several children’s
entertainers along with a huge
range of activities to entertain
kids of all ages. The giant real
ale bar and tea-tent are always
popular, as is the food court.

will be in the arena, and falconry
also features, along with farm
animals and talented dogs!
The Island’s biggest annual
fun-fair pitches up on site,
alongside classic cars, lorries,
tractors, engines, trains and
archery, as well as gardening,
plants, tools, furniture and lots
more.

Great value with Hovertravel
Hovertravel has several great value tickets to the
best family attractions in the south for the school
holidays. A ‘must see’ is the new Mary Rose
Museum (right). Opened in May, the museum
showcases the Mary Rose in her final conservation
stage.
The Hover Open Day is August 22, 13.45pm –
15.30pm where visitors meet the pilot, enjoy a
pleasure trip, take a tour of the craft and the Flight
