SOCIAL SCENE Weather halts Hants Almost inevitably this summer, the weather put a dampener on what would have been Hampshire Cricket’s Club’s first match on the Island in some 50 years. Hampshire were due to face a team of international stars of yesteryear, who may be a bit beyond their best, but would have provided stern opposition in two T20 games at the Newclose County Ground, Newport. Alas, it rained all day, and not a ball was bowled. But it did not prevent players from both sides enjoying the fine hospitality Newclose had to offer, both in the impressive pavilion and in marquees situated on the side of the ground. 64 www.visitislandlife.com
