High Sheriff

hosts party

The traditional High Sheriff ’s
party, to highlight the work
carried out during a busy year
in office, was held recently on
the lawns of the Island’s new
High Sheriff, Nick Hayward.
The High Sheriff was
accompanied by his wife,
Nicky, and the guests included
the Island’s Lord Lieutenant
Major General Martin White,
deputy Lieutenants, a number
of former High Sheriffs,
representatives from the
Island’s police and ambulance
services and the voluntary
sector along with friends and
family.

The gathering also included
Lord Fowler, who as Norman
Fowler was a member of
Margaret Thatcher’s Cabinet
from 1981 to 1990, and
Baroness Bottomley of
Nettlestone, possibly better
known as Virginia Bottomley,
a Conservative MP from 1984
to 2005.
The party was blessed with a
sunny day, and Nick said: “The
party provided the opportunity
to thank so many people for
their support, and to recognise
the work carried out by a
lot of exceptional voluntary
organisations on the Island.”
