ISLAND LIFE Bank Holiday of scooters and steam It promises to be a busy and spectacular August Bank Holiday weekend on the Island, with the International Scooter Rally and the Island Steam Show among the highlights. The Scooter Rally centres on Ryde, and is widely recognised as the biggest event of its kind in the world. It attracts thousands of scooterists from all over Britain and beyond, and culminates with the awesome spectacle of the Island ride-out on the Sunday afternoon. Other highlights include a spectacular custom scooter show, said to be the best display of custom scooters in Europe and various forms of live entertainment, all open to members of the public. The Island Steam Show takes place at the IW Steam Railway, Havenstreet, and includes a collection of beautifully maintained traction engines and steam lorries, and a display of over 100 classic and vintage cars.
