ISLAND LIFE Dates for your diary Carnival season is in full swing The Carnival season is already in full swing across the Island, with many more processions to come throughout August. Carnivals are the culmination of many months’ hard work for those who take part and raise money for worthy causes. In case you have not seen the colourful spectacle of a carnival winding through the streets and roads of many Island towns and villages, here are a few more days for your diary: August 10, Ryde Carnival Children’s Procession; August 11, Ryde Carnival (6.30pm); August 15, Ventnor Main Carnival (7.0pm); August 18, Ventnor Illuminated Carnival (9.0pm); August 24, Pan Carnival (7.0pm); August 25, Cowes Illuminated Carnival; August 27, St Helens Main Carnival (6.30) and August 29, Sandown Illuminated Carnival (9.0pm). Simon over the Moon at entries Five times world farrier champion Grant Moon will be one of the judges at a shoeing competition to be held at Brickfields on September 1 from 8.30am to 5.0pm. Organiser Simon Legge has attracted 32 top mainland farriers to take part, some coming from far away as Yorkshire and Wales. Grant will judge three classes, while the Apprentic e competition will be judged by England Farrier Team Manager Nigel Fennell. The event takes place in the main arena with £2 admission for spectators. Highland Gathering returns to Robin Hill Following its successful launch last year, the a go’ piping sessions.
