ISLAND LIFE
On the Fringe
at Ventnor
The second Ventnor Fringe Festival
is being staged at various locations
throughout the town from Wednesday
August 17 to Saturday August 20.
The open arts Festival is billed as a
unique gathering of artists from a diverse
range of disciplines, brought together
by the opportunity to present, perform,
debate, discuss and create artistic work.
The Fringe was launched last year by
a team of teenagers from the town who
wanted to bring the community together
and return the town to its roots as a health
spa and centre of wellbeing. Inspired by
the world famous Edinburgh Festival
Fringe, this year’s Festival is being held to
coincide with the 122nd annual Carnival
Celebrations.

Garlic galore!
It’s that time of the year
again for garlic galore! The
ever-popular Garlic Festival
will be held at its Newchurch
site on Saturday August 20
and Sunday August 21.
The Garlic Festival is
generally accepted as the
Island's biggest summer show,
featuring a packed schedule
of stage and arena events.
The site embraces a huge
range of entertainment and
activities, with over 300
commercial stalls, fairground
rides, vintage vehicles and
mouth-watering treats,
with the emphasis very
much on garlic. The world
famous Island garlic flavours
everything from hot crusty
bread to moules, sweet corn,
prawns and lamb. Then
of course there is garlic
flavoured ice cream, popcorn,
olives, coffee and even beer!
A great day out for all the
family.
