Royal revival
The Royal Hotel in Ventnor will be rolling
back the years in October as part of the
Michelin Guide Centenary celebrations.
The Royal Revival, a weekend of vintage fun,
will be held at the hotel on October 14 and 15,
and will provide the opportunity to re-live the
glamour of the 1920s, 30s, 40s and 50s.
The Royal is one of the oldest hotels on the
Island, welcoming travellers since 1832. It
also shares the rare privilege of being one of
only 30 hotels to be listed in every Michelin
Guide since it was first published in 1911.
Queen Victoria used to take tea at the hotel;
it was regularly visited by the aristocracy and
crowned heads of Europe, and still evokes the
charm of a bygone era.
The celebrations will begin on October 14
with a three-course evening dinner in the
award-winning Appuldurcombe restaurant,
with entertainment provided by The Bovril
Sisters and up-close magic with Island
illusionist Aaron Isted.
The following day guests will board a
vintage bus for a sightseeing tour that will
run twice during the day. Later, a three-course
evening dinner with a menu inspired by
the Edwardians and created by the hotel’s
award-winning chef Alan Staley will be served.
Singer/pianist Liane Carroll and her band
will also perform unique renditions of songs by
Noel Coward, Gertrude Lawrence, Cole Porter,
Lady Ella and many more
The two-day package costs £295 per person
to include two nights' accommodation and
full English breakfast every morning. For more
information and reservations please call 01983
