Island Life - August/September 2010 August/September 2010 foreword - a guide to what's on... life Lashings of cricketing fun come to Newclose County Ground The renowned Lashings cricket team will be back on the Island for a seventh successive season, but at a new venue, on August 22. The Lashings World XI, which includes many former Test, County and overseas stars, will take on Ventnor at the Newclose County Cricket Ground, with gates opening at noon, and the game starting at 2.30pm. The match, played at Ventnor’s Steephill ground in previous years, is a joint venture between Newclose and Ventnor CC. Mike Scott, Newclose general manager, said: “When we were approached by Ventnor to look at the possibility of hosting the Lashings fixture on behalf of Ventnor CC we were delighted. Visit our new website - www.visitislandlife.com “The Lashings World XI is a tremendous cricketing g team full of international stars and we are looking forward to working with Ventnor CC to put on a great event for the whole Island”. The Lashings squad is captained by former New Zealand all-rounder Chris Harris and includes West Indies’ legends Richie Richardson, Curtly Ambrose, and Courtney Walsh. Australians Ian Harvey and Greg Blewett, former Englishman Phil DeFreitas, and Pakistan’s Mohammed Akram and Saqlan Mushtaq are also Lashings members. Tickets, priced £10.00 are on sale at Ventnor CC and Newclose. Children’s tickets are £3.00. 9
