OUT & ABOUT
Welsh choir
raise voices for
good causes
The Haverford West Male Voice Choir delighted
audiences in Shanklin over a weekend in July.
The Welsh choir sang to a packed audience at
Shanklin Methodist Church on the Saturday,
and on the Sunday David Biles hosted them at
Somerton Farm.
The first concert, which celebrated the church’s
50
144th birthday, raised £760, and the second,
in aid of the Royal Agricultural Benevolent
Institution (RABI), raised £1,269. Mavis Mew,
who with her husband Arthur brought the choir
to the Island, thanked everyone who supported
the events.
The programme included tear-jerkers such as
the American Triology and Morte Christe.
Thanks to Arthur and Mavis it was not all work
and no play for the Welsh visitors. Arthur joined
them and their entourage in their two coaches to
take them to some of the lesser known parts of
the Island, and Mavis provided lunch for all.
