the sea. An instructor we

biggest danger we find is
down to a lack of planning;
check weather and tidal
charts thoroughly before you
head out and if you are not
comfortable with this, speak

If the maritime scenery and
a few small-wave thrills ‘float
your boat’, there’s a club
on the Island, which began
around 2 years ago; these
clubs are growing rapidly. If
you are taking up the sport, a
‘beach play’ sit-on kayak plus
paddle and buoyancy aid is the
minimum start-up package and
comes in at around £320.00.
Higher-end boats start at
around the £500 mark.
Most schools operate all year
round; 1-day adventures for
groups of 2–6 people, run by
some of the highest qualified
coaches in the South of the
UK, cost £70 per person.
