Very image of a great café
“I had all these ideas bubbling in
my head and this is what I came
out with,” says Dino Karabasic,
owner of Images deli café in
Newport.
What he came out with was a
spacious, modish café with a
delicatessan at the front selling
in-house prepared products,
and delicious but good value
food served at the tables. Not to
mention excellent coffee.
For it isn’t just the lovely
photographs on the walls of
Images that mark it out as
different from an average
Newport eatery. Images has
everything it does on display.
The rustic loaves and ciabatta
rolls piled in baskets on the
wine-coloured shelves come
straight from the chef’s oven –
and thanks to the theatre-style
kitchen, you can see everything
you eat being prepared. “People
enjoy the bread we use for their
sandwiches, then they can buy a
loaf to take home,” says Dino.
Dino has managed to make what
might have been an ordinary
café into something that appeals
to everyone. Whether you’re just
grabbing half an hour away from
