FOREWORD Established International Artist Carolyn Pavey is one of the foremost established Island artists with an international reputation. Well known for her dramatic skies and evocative landscapes, Carolyn has a natural empathy with the seasonal and social changes of Island life. The diversity of her subject matter ranges from exquisite still life paintings to studies of children and portraits as well as sea and landscapes. Her preferred mediums are oil and watercolour, although she is equally adept working in pastels and acrylics. Carolyn has exhibited in many Island Life - www.islandlife.tv prestigious exhibitions, including the Royal Academy and the Royal Watercolour Society. Her work also forms part of a number of connoisseurs’ overseas collections. Her annual exhibition of paintings and prints is being held at the Masonic Hall in Seaview during August. On show will be a collection of watercolours completed for Major General MS White CB CBE JP, HM Lieutenant of the Isle of Wight, amongst a number of other commissions completed this year. The exhibition opens on Friday 17th August with a private view, and to the general public at 12 noon on the same day. For people who want to come in and browse the show runs daily from 10am until 6pm until Tuesday 21st August. Preceeding the exhibition there will be a variety of one (1) day art and writing courses, tailored to individual abilities – details are as follows: The venue for the exhibition and classes is the MASONIC HALL, FAIRY ROAD, SEAVIEW 7.8.07 taking watercolour further 8.8.07 still-life painting 14.8.07 writers course – with published author Felicity Fair-Thompson 15.8.07 writers course – with published author Felicity Fair-Thompson Somerton Cross Country Event Sat 22nd and Sunday 23rd September 2007 A new look for this year's event The Cross Country event at Somerton Farm, sponsored this year by Creasey Biles & King and CBK Waterside, takes place in September by kind permission of Mr & Mrs David Biles. The event has been run annually by the Isle of Wight Hunt Supporters’ Club for some 25yrs and from very modest beginnings has grown into a major date in the Island’s equestrian calendar. This year, as well as the usual crosscountry classes from minimus to open, there will be a Two Day Event with dressage and show jumping on the Saturday and cross country on the Sunday. Also for the first time this will be a British Horse Society Qualifier for the South Essex Insurance Brokers BHS Cross Country Championships 2007. Work is going on apace at Somerton Farm to revamp the fences and course builder John Found and his team are constructing several completely new obstacles and others are having a thorough makeover.
