Don’t spare the
horses on the
Trans Wight Drive

The three-day Trans Wight Drive has
become so popular that it is now by
invitation only. About 24 carriages,
with horses ranging from Shetland
Ponies upwards went from Ningwood,
over Mottistone and Freshwater
Downs to Totland and Yarmouth.
On to Carisbrooke the following
day, and the final run went from
Merstone to Bembridge. One driver,
Julie Hoskins, represents Britain
in the Pony Pairs in Belgium.

The pink wheelbarrow outside suggests
that Trumor Feeds is going to be rather
surprising. It is a large store selling animal
feed, bedding and fencing, that much is
expected. But it is the shelves groaning with
combs, silk worms and a range of hair care
products that wouldn’t seem out of place
at the local salon that takes you aback.
Deb Groves will celebrate 10 years owning
the business next June. She was able to
blend in her small feed business when
she took it on, as well as indulge her own
passion for horses. She has stables and a
show ring at the back of the premises.
Trumor supplies the likes of Robin Hill, most
riding schools and Shanklin Zoo, “as well as
lots of small-holdings,” Deb says. “We’ve got
organic food for chickens and pig food for
pot-bellied pigs. We’ve got dust-free bedding
