OUT AND ABOUT
The Wild Wild West
Brickfields summer fayre
Brickfields was the venue for a
traditional style fayre held on the
7th and 8th July; the occasion was
in celebration of Brickfields’ 25th
anniversary. The weather was very
kind, considering how unpredictable
it had been previously. All the
proceeds from the weekend
went to two charities, the Earl
Mountbatten Hospice and the Royal
Agricultural Benevolent Institute.
Country pursuits of all sorts were
present at the fayre. There were
experts on hand to give visitors an
opportunity to test their aim at clay
pigeon shooting, to try their hands
at fly casting and also to have a
go at carriage driving. There were
beagles and hounds for people to
meet, terrier racing, a dog show
and dog agility performances.
All the regular Brickfields
attractions were on show;
Shire horse parades, pig
racing, blacksmiths working
48
demonstrations, miniature
Shetlands, pony rides and
plenty more. There were some
lovely craft stalls and many
amusements for the children.
A strong cowboy theme to
the weekend meant that the
Long Riders were on site for the
duration and provided much
entertainment. Ryde Extreme
Performers were there for the
weekend and did some extreme
performing involving fire eating.
Saturday night continued
with the cowboy theme and
there was a dance in the big
arena with live music provided
by The Lonesome Valley Boys
and The Dance Preachers.
A carriage driving show
was held on the Sunday. The
weekend went off exceptionally
well and it is hoped that this
becomes an annual event.
