What’s in season?
What’s best to eat during
August & September?
During the summer months there
is an abundance of wonderful
ingredients available from your
local farmers, farm shops and
markets.
Fruits: strawberries,
gooseberries and raspberries,
plums, rhubarb, gauges and
peaches and some Islanders are
even managing to produce figs
Vegetables: superb runner
beans, Broad beans, green peas,
tomatoes, courgettes, aubergines
with beetroot and squashes
showing up later into September.
Salads: roquette, mizuna,
watercress, chard, bulls’ blood,
mustard, radish leaf, plus the
usual array of Romano, little gem,
and more common varieties of
lettuce

Fish: Mike Curtis of the Captain
Stan will be catching turbot,
plaice, black bream, red mullet,
mackerel and bass. And the
fabulous lobsters are a must for
that special dinner.
Meat: wood pigeon
If the sun does ever come out
get that bbq Fired up and get
grilling some fabulous I.O.W.
meat!!

the awful weather but if you are
