Recently voted the “World’s Leading Travel
Experience By Train” at the prestigious
World Travel Awards, the Rocky
Mountaineer journey is an unforgettable
experience, considered by many to be a trip
of a lifetime.
Following the historic train routes constructed
over 100 years ago to unify Canada’s West and the
Canadian Rockies, this original two-day rail journey
recaptures the romance of rail travel of days gone
by. What’s more, the entire train ride takes place
during daylight hours to ensure guests enjoy every
minute of the breathtaking scenery, which includes
glacier-fed lakes, majestic mountain ranges and
ferocious rivers.
Although there are two levels of service on board,
those wishing to experience the ultimate in luxury
rail travel should opt for the aptly named GoldLeaf
Service. In GoldLeaf guests enjoy reserved seating
in two-storey, glass domed coaches, which feature
panoramic views on the upper level and an elegant
private dining room on the main level where
the specially prepared à la carte breakfasts and
lunches are served. The GoldLeaf Dome windows
afford breathtaking views of the rugged canyons,
desert landscapes, shimmering lakes and aweinspiring Canadian Rocky Mountains that are in
abundance as the train winds its way along the
track. Champagne is served on departure setting
the standard for the level of service to be expected
throughout the journey. As well as the Onboard
Attendants tending to your every need, they also
provide informative commentary of the regions
through which the train travels.
The Rocky Mountaineer previously operated on
two routes only - the Kicking Horse Route which
travels between Vancouver and Banff, Alberta and
the Yellowhead Route which takes guests from the
beautiful coastal city of Vancouver,
British Columbia, to Jasper in Alberta. However,
in May 2006, the company launched a new and
third route for the Rocky Mountaineer: the Fraser
Discovery Route.
Carrying guests through the diverse beauty of
British Columbia’s interior, this journey offers
adventure, discovery and the same level of
legendary service, experience and scenery for
which the Rocky Mountaineer train has become
famous. The two-day, all daylight rail journey
begins in Whistler, British Columbia and travels
through towering canyons, lush ranchlands and
snow-capped mountain peaks to the quaint town of
Jasper, Alberta in the Canadian Rockies.
All three routes are included in Rocky
Mountaineer Vacations’ Canadian Gold Collection
- a series of luxury rail holidays that include Rocky
Mountaineer journeys in GoldLeaf Service, deluxe
hotels, gourmet dining and personalised service
throughout. So for a completely indulgent Canadian
itinerary, ‘go for gold’ with Rocky Mountaineer
Vacations.
