Equestrian The British Horse Society (BHS) is the largest equestrian charity in the UK, and one of its charitable aims is to get more people into riding. It is urging more people to spend time around horses and to even consider getting in the saddle. Horse riding has become an increasingly popular pastime in recent years and anyone, of any age or ability can take it up. Research commissioned by the BHS found that spending time around horses is proven to boost your mood and is a great work out. If you are looking to have your first lesson, you will want to pick a riding school that is both reputable and well run. The BHS has over 700 Approved Riding Schools across the country, including on the Isle of Wight. These Approved Centres have horse and pony welfare along with client safety and satisfaction as priorities. All establishments are insured for public liability and comply with the latest health and safety legislation. If you have already taken up the hobby of horse riding and would like more support, the BHS offers a Participation Project. The project has now been running for three years and has had over 10,000 riders take part. It is all about getting people interested in horses by providing access to a network of advice, knowledge, support and education. Those who take part in the project are equipped with the skills they need to increase their confidence and ride more often. Perhaps you are looking to turn your hobby of horse riding into a career? The British Horse Society’s Equine Excellence Pathway provides internationally recognised qualifications for those pursuing a career with horses.
