Commonwealth
Day in Ryde
Coinciding with similar ceremonies
across the UK and the Commonwealth,
Ryde played host to a flag raising
ceremony at the town flagpole.
Both the Ryde Mayor and the Deputy Lieutenant of
the Island addressed the participants, which included
many schoolchildren and local army cadets.
The blue and yellow Commonwealth flag was
raised after a series of prayers and a reading of
the Queen’s speech by Deputy Lieutenant John
Matthews, in what is probably his last official
function.
