Hedge-laying
competition
A cold but clear day greeted over
50 competitors at the 25th IW
Hedge-laying Competiton, held at
New Barn Farm, Calbourne.
Mainland competitors took the top four places
while 5th placed Tom Murphy, the former triple
champion, was the Islands highest place ‘AONB
Open’ competitor.
First place went to Rob Wood from
Dorchester. Father and son, Simon and
Kingsley Hollis from Shorwell, waved the flag
for the Island, winning not only the Landscape
Therapy Team Trophy, but also a new award,
‘Best Laid Hedge by an Island Competitor’. The
Mary Sitch Novice Cup was won by Matt Gee
from Hampshire.
Organiser Tony Ridd, of Landscape
Therapy said ‘It was rewarding to see so
many competitors battling it out on the day,
supported by a steady stream of spectators.
The judges had their work cut out, with only
two points separating 2nd to 6th places in the
Open section.’ www.iwhg.org
