Days out
Bembridge Harbour
2017 Events
Events this season kick off
with Jazz on the Quay on
Saturday 10th June.
Back for a 2nd year, Cat Skelington’s
magical blend of old time gypsy jazz
will be followed by Island favourites
The Unity Stompers. The Ralvins will
be cooking up delicious Street Food
and a cash bar will be provided by the
Island’s very own Horsebox Bar. An
evening not to be missed!
The 2017 Bembridge Harbour
Family Fun Weekend, 28th-30th
July, promises to be the best yet!
Events include beach games and
competitions, free paddleboard /
kayak “splash” sessions with Tackt-Isle
Adventures, the RNLI Bembridge
Lifeboat will be alongside and there’s
the Great Bembridge Paper Bo at
Race. A Harbour Fireworks Display
follows Dance on the Duver on
Saturday evening and don’t forget
the crabbing competition on Sunday
morning. This year organisers are
adding a Treasure Hunt, hula hooping
and more. As it says on the tin - a
wonderful family weekend full of fun!
Oktoberfest at Bembridge Harbour
on Saturday 23rd September takes
its inspiration from the tradition
of German beer festivals (another
tradition is to hold Oktoberfest in
September!). The evening will have
a distinctly Island flavour, featuring
locally produced and sourced food,
beers and ales, with live music from
Folklore.
All events support the Sophie
Rolf Trust - Kissy Puppy, originally
set up to support Sophie and her
family after she was diagnosed with
an inoperable brain tumour. Sadly
Sophie lost her battle at the end of
2013 when she was just 6 years old.
Sophie’s journey highlighted
the limited healthcare options on
the Island for children with life
shortening conditions - no specialist
children’s hospice meant respite and
end of life care was 3 hours away in
Winchester.
Sophie’s courageous family
continue to work with the Earl
Mountbatten Hospice, local NHS and
the Community Nursing Team to
help support, develop and improve
existing provision. Rooms at the
hospice are now equipped with
specialised medical equipment and if
used are funded solely by the charity
- the cost of provision for one child/
family can be in excess of £20,000.
