When it comes to obstetrics and gynaecology , it seems that the Isle of Wight can rival the specialist services of even Harley Street practitioners . For the team of skilled practitioners at the Mottistone private wing of St Mary ’ s Hospital includes top Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist Costas Panayotidis , who has studied , trained and practised in some of Europe ’ s leading universities and hospitals . Mr Panayotidis was born in the North of England and excelled as a student – so much so that at the age of 18 , he was selected to study medicine at the world-famous University of Louis Pasteur in Strasbourg , France , from where he qualified in 1997 . Having completed his GP training in France in 2000 , he then opted to carry out research into hypofertility and intrauterine insemination and obtained an MSc in Reproductive Science . Still keen to add to his specialist knowledge , he returned to the UK in 2001 to complete his full training in

And he points out that IVF is not the only available option : “ There are other avenues we can explore . We have a very flexible service that includes outpatient surgeries ”. Mr Panayotidis , who has recently bought a home close to St Mary ’ s Hospital , says he would be happy to settle on the Island . He says he ’ s enjoying the different pace of life , after many years of living in cities and larger communities in the UK and across Europe . When he ’ s not researching or seeing patients , he enjoys indulging his creative side by playing the piano – which he studied for 12 years at The Athenaeum Conservatory in Athens - as well as creating abstract and surrealist art work , and tending his collection of cactus plants .
