New High Sheriff

unveils Isle of Wight Day

ell-known champion of the
Isle of Wight, Robin Courage
MBE, was sworn in as High Sheriff
at a ceremony at Osborne House on
April 4 – and immediately unveiled a
plan to give the Island its own day of
celebration.
Mr Courage said the first-ever
Isle of Wight Day would take place
on September 24, with the aim of
trumpeting all that’s great about the
Island.
As the former owner with his late
wife Serena, of promotional company
Made on the Isle of Wight, Mr Courage

is a seasoned advocate for Island
products, having sold thousands of
them on behalf of over 400 Island
suppliers, to markets throughout the
UK and worldwide.
He told the gathered assembly that
with the help of community leaders,
he’d decided to create Isle of Wight
Day as a way for the Island to celebrate
its unique heritage.
He’s now urging individual Islanders,
communities, organisations and
companies to put their heads together
and come up with hundreds of
different projects to celebrate the day.
