It is common for people to live through their childhood,
teenage years and into adulthood with moles which cause
them embarrassment.
Dr Máire explains that providing the mole is benign it can
be removed during a short outpatient visit to the clinic.
“It is amazing how even large and disfiguring moles can
leave very little scar once removed.
The first step is to have a consultation to have the mole
checked to ensure that it is benign and suitable for removal
at the clinic.
Photographs of the mole are taken and once all the details
of the procedure and the aftercare are explained. the mole is
removed under local anaesthetic.
The procedure itself takes no longer than 15 minutes.
Besides moles there are other facial blemishes which Dr
Máire treats at the clinic. “Sunspots are very common and
can be successfully treated using Intense Pulsed light (IPL),
or if the sunspot is deeper a peel called Trichloracetic acid
(TCA) is used instead.”
Another very common problem is a vascular spot called a
spider nevus which causes a red area on the skin and can be
removed successfully with laser.
Showing before and after photos of her results is very
reassuring for patients and Dr Máire has thousands of
photographs accumulated over the years. “Patients are often
really surprised to see their own before and after photos and
it is reassuring for me also to see the comparison.”
