Frost triumphs
at Ashey Scurry
A
fter a number of years of sunny,
calm conditions for the Ashey
Scurry, it was disappointing to
wake up to more typical blustery March
weather.
Organisers wondered if anybody
would actually turn out at all - so
they were pleasantly surprised when
a determined number of spectators
arrived, and divided their time between
watching the races and then retreating
to the shelter of the refreshment tent.
There was also a stalwart bunch of
competitors who were unfazed by
the weather and seemed to enjoy
themselves despite jumping in near
gale force winds at times.
The Grand National was won for
the second year running by Haddon

Frost and Templer, with local rider
Theo Seely and Golden Child coming
second.
This was Theo’s first attempt at the
National, and the class was dominated
by mainland competitors who pointto-point and team chase regularly.
Golden Child was awarded the
Diamond Isle Sculptured Glass Trophy
for being the highest-placed Island
horse.
Organisers thanked Alan Aylett for
allowing the Grand National to take
place on his farm once again, and
their sponsors, in particular Biles and
Co, without whose support the event
would not take place.
