Spectators scurry T
along to Ashey!
he ever-popular Isle of Wight Grand
National and Ashey Scurry was back
on the social calendar this year after
being postponed in 2013 due to
adverse weather conditions.
Crowds flocked to Ashey Farm to see the
racing and the event’s honorary secretary,
Caroline Cooper said: "The day went well, and
everybody seemed to enjoy themselves. There
were no major injuries to horses or riders
which of course was the important thing.”
The CBK Isle of Wight Grand National
sponsored by Creasey Biles and King was
won by Haddon Frost on Brian who beat Del
Lafferty on Jack, with Mark Smith on Lester
third. Best Turned Out was Phil Headon
on Private Hook VC. Rachel Parsons riding
Golden Child won the Senior Ashey Scurry,
sponsored by FW Winter & Sons. Will Howland
on Steve was second, and Lilly Bartlett on
Okehurst Domino third. The Honour Bound
Cup for first in the junior section was won by
Will Howland on Steve, and Rachel Parsons
and Golden Child won the Diamond Isle
Sculptured Glass trophy for best Isle of Wight
horse. Lilly Bartlett and Okehurst Domino
claimed Best Turned Out and the IW Hunt
award. Overall Best Turned Out was Grace
Linington and Okehurst Oliver Twist.
