Plenty to celebrate with Wight Fire Sandown-based Wight Fire & Security have double cause for celebration. They have recently moved into new premises at 5-6 Faulkner Lane, while one of their employees, Peter Knight is about to complete 30 years service with the company. Peter joined Wight Fire & Security in 1984, a couple of years after it was founded by Ron Green as a small family-run business, dealing mainly in fire extinguishers. Jay Lock It has made huge strides since those early days, with Mike Death buying it in the mid-1990s. Mike’s son-in-law and daughter Jay and Becky Lock now run the company, along with Steve Winter who joined as a director in 2010. Peter from Bembridge is a fire extinguisher engineer and one of 16 employees, along with Steve, Jay and Becky. Wight Fire & Security cover the whole of the Island, dealing not just with fire extinguishers, but Jay Lock fire alarms, and more recently further broadening their scope with intruder alarms, door entry systems and CCTV systems. Steve said: “We also offer fire training and fire risk assessments to compliment our fire based services. Naturally there are only so many fire extinguishers you can sell on the Island, so it was important we moved with the times to cater for customers’ needs.” Even so, it is still worth remembering that fire extinguishers should be serviced annually; fire alarms bi-annually; and emergency lights, intruder alarms and CCTV systems annually. Steve said: “It is important to have regular servicing to comply with British Standards and insurance policy requirements.” Wight Fire & Security moved premises just before Christmas, but did not have too far to travel. Steve explained: “We moved to much larger premises just across the road from where we were before. The offices are much more spacious for meetings and training, and we also have larger workshops. The former premises were a bit cramped, so we regard this as a major upgrade.” The company are happy to visit potential customers to offer free quotations and advice for extinguishers, fire alarms and security equipment, although there is a charge for risk assessment. Wight Fire & Security are pleased to welcome call-in clients, but they also have a comprehensive website and can be contacted on 01983 407155.
