*Jed Frampton (nominated by Isle
of Wight Youth & Activity Centre)
had difficulties with the authorities,
but after disappearing off the radar
for a while he returned to IWYAC in
2011 and has never looked back since.
His passion is yacht sailing, a sport in
which he has excelled, and has a raft of
qualifications under his hat.
*Giorgia Nicholson (nominated
by YMCA) overcame difficult life
circumstances relating to the sudden
and traumatic death of her father
when she was 14 years old.
*Thomas Chamberlain (nominated
by St. Catherine's) strives hard at St.
Catherine's and in his determination
enrolled on a Level 3 BTEC course
on Outdoor Activities, equivalent to
3 ‘A’ levels, which therefore requires a
considerable amount of hard work and
commitment. Toby does not consider
the fact that he is deaf a problem,
despite being a dinghy instructor
which requires expert communication
skills.
*Vicky Hoar (nominated by 6th
Form Innovation Centre) suffered a
stroke at the age of nine, but went on
to achieve good GCSE results. With
the support of her parents and school
Vicky has diligently worked to gain an
A in photography and a B in fine art.
*Max Edge (nominated by Young
to progress he joined the local Army
Cadets, This has been of enormous
benefit, teaching him how to interact
with other children and adults and
also allowing him to learn how
to overcome his communication
difficulties.
*Alice Chambers (nominated UKSA)
found it difficult mixing and making
friends with her peers, staying focused
and remembering information.
But Alice has been determined to
overcome these problems and became
involved in DofE Award scheme, and
has gone on to win the silver medal.
*Toby Green (nominated UKSA)
Carers) started life mostly in care,
and when he was adopted in 2010,
he was unable to read or write, but
has since excelled in both and at the
same time discovered a love for art.
He has also discovered the performing
arts, attending Theatretrain, and has
performed at the Royal Albert Hall.
*Sadie Kean (nominated by
Challenge & Adventure) the eldest
of five in her family, has had to bear
all the responsibilities. She struggled
with life and school and was at risk
of facing exclusion. She approached
Challenge and Adventure, signing up
for a course to help with self esteem

and quickly changed, taking an active
role in the groups and looking after
others.
*Hannah Jones (nominated by
St.Georges School) found mainstream
education difficult, but since
attending to St Georges she has turned
her life around. Her self esteem
has rocketed and her dedication to
work has to be admired, all gained
through high attendance, hard work
and determination. Her love is
photography and she has taken the
school photograph as a part of an
enterprise project.
*Sophie-Rose Broadley-Derby
(nominated by YMCA) helps to care
for her father who has a number of
conditions and uses a specially adapted
electric wheel chair. She is also a great
supporter of the Young Carers Service
and is always willing to help others.
