ISLAND LIFE
Young achievers
are recognised
Nick Hayward recently presented the
High Sheriff Awards 2013 to celebrate
the Achievements of Young People on
the Island.
Nick said: “Everyone was moved by
the sheer determination that these
young people have shown. I hope the
recognition they received will have a
lasting effect on helping them continue
to progress. It was a wonderful way to
celebrate what has been a thoroughly
enjoyable year as High Sheriff.”
The recipients were:
*Andy Rae (nominated by YMCA)
a young carer who looks after his
mother who has a number of medical
conditions. He is also a great supporter
of the Young Carers Service. He’s
always been willing to turn out and
help.
*Heather (nominated by YMCA) a
wonderful young person, who despite
very difficult family circumstance and
complicated multiple bereavement is
able to see the positive in challenging
circumstances.
*Aaron Jacobs (nominated by
Shanklin Voluntary Youth and
Community Centre) is a committed
volunteer, acting as a positive role
model for the young. Also involved at
Newchurch Primary School helping
with drama productions and discos, his
energy and drive knows no bounds.
*Chloe Finch (nominated by
Atkinson House) did not have an easy
start in life and struggled academically.
Since returning from London, she
has transformed herself and though
affected by one or two difficult
health issues, Chloe enrolled at HTP,
studying Health & Social Care,
English, Maths & ICT - achieving
good grades, Chloe is a new person,
fit, focused, and an example to all.
