SOCIAL SCENE Wight Crew warming up The plucky members of the Wight Crew warmed up for their row across the English Channel with a fundraising dinner at the Royal Corinthian Yacht Club, Cowes. Radio One DJ Rob da Bank and double Olympic gold medallist Shirley Robertson both attended the function, which raised an amazing £17,000, well over the team’s expectations for the evening. The Wight Crew are a group of seven ladies who live on the Island and will depart from Dover on June 22 and row across the English Channel to France. The row will raise money for the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust http://www. ellenmacarthurcancertrust.org/), an Island based charity that takes young people in recovery from cancer sailing to help them regain their confidence, and Ahoy (http://www.ahoy.org.uk/) -- a c harity based in Deptford, London.
