Little Mix have taken the music scene
by storm since they became the first
group ever to win The X Factor back
in 2011.
Now the four-piece girl group,
consisting of Perrie Edwards, Jesy
Nelson, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Jade
Thirlwall, can hardly wait to embark
on the next step of their incredible
journey by performing at this year’s
Isle of Wight Festival.
But for Perrie, the youngest member
of the group at 19, it will be more
than just going out on the stage of the
Big Top to entertain the masses. She
wants to join in the fun as a reveller,
and if time allows she reckons she
might even spend a night under canvas
with the rest of her family.
Perrie, who comes from South
Shields, Tyne and Wear, said: “I just
can’t wait to get to the Isle of Wight;
it is going to be so much fun. I have
never been to the Festival before, but
all my family have been down there,
and usually camp out for a few days.
“Now they know I am there with the
girls this year they are so excited, and
they are all coming down to see us. My
little cousin wants to camp out for the
whole of the Festival, but she is still a
bit too young, so she will just have to
make do with seeing me!”
And Perrie revealed that she is a
massive fan of legendary group Bon
Jovi who are this year’s headline act
at the Festival. She said: When I was
growing up I just loved their music. I
have told everyone I work with that if
I don’t get to meet Jon Bon Jovi while
I am there I am going to cry.
“I just wish I could perform and
then stay for the whole of the Festival
because it is going to be so cool. I am
not sure what out plans are yet, but if
I do get the chance to stay overnight,
then I shall be camping in a tent with
the rest of my family – especially if
it means seeing Bon Jovi! It’s a huge
event and everyone is going to be in
the Festival mood, camping out and
enjoying the music.”
Perrie admits she can hardly believe
how much Little Mix have achieved
since they were voted X Factor
winners. She said: “It s hectic, but
every day is different and we just love
what we are doing.”
But initially it wasn’t an easy
route for the four girls. Perrie, Jesy,
Leigh-Anne and Jade all successfully
auditioned as soloists for the eighth
series of The X Factor, but failed
to make it past bootcamp's first
challenge. They were then given
another chance to be part of the
Groups category, but were put into
different groups before finally being
pulled together as the four-piece group
Rhythmix, and went through to the
judges' houses.
But it didn’t end there because later
they announced they would change
their name following a dispute with
a Brighton-based children's music
charity of the same name, and finally
became Little Mix.
