Island Life's Laura
Boynton reports on her
visit to Utopia Spa
I underwent Hopi ear candling treatment
this time around. Thermal Auricular
Therapy (the technical name) can be
used to treat all sorts of ailments or
conditions relating to the ears, and I have
to say I was really intrigued into how this
treatment worked and what the results
would show.
The candle, made from flax or cotton
that has been impregnated with Bees wax
and various therapeutic oils, is burned at
a 45 degree angle, for around
10 minutes per ear.
After just getting over a
cold, it was the ideal therapy!
At first I was a little unsure,
but the experience was
very relaxing. Once the ear
candling was complete, I was
given a drainage massage
which helps to aid the sinuses
and unblock the tubes.
The results...
'Ideal
therapy'
My right ear had a lot of dense powder, yet only
a bit of wax, possibly due to the fact I had just
had a cold.
The left ear had no residue of wax left over,
but again there was a dense amount of powder,
which may have been slight inflammation of the
inner ear, due to the cold. I was recommended
treatment once a week for three weeks.
About Hopi Ear Candling
With a chimney-like effect, the
cylindrical, 20-cm hollow candle has
been proven to help anything from
snoring, sinus pains and Tinnitus, to
ear ache, excess wax build up and
headaches.
The therapist will be continually
holding the candle in the ear as to
ensure the clients safe being. The
candle only goes about 1 cm into
the outer ear and it is purely the

vapour that does the work to the
inner ear. After each ear is treated, a
massage of the face, ears and neck
is done to aid drainage and soothing
of the sinuses, and also to promote
relaxation.
Biosun candles have filters to
protect the ear from burning residue,
making them the safest candles on
the market.
