GARDENING summer A to celebrate with colour and enjoy your garden By Mrs. Ursula Thompson, Thompson’s Garden Centre, Newchurch As the days lengthen it’s great to get out in the fresh air and spend more time in the garden. 116 www.visitislandlife.com Now is the time to really get started with summer bedding plants for the front of borders, pots and baskets. There is a wonderful range of plants from geraniums and fuchsias, osteospermum, marguerites and begonias which flower throughout the summer. From April onwards we have an extensive selection of young plants and seedlings to grow on, also hanging basket and vegetable plants. We will have special colour selections to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee and the Olympics. Many gardeners will already know that there is a real problem affecting one of our favourite bedding plants, busy lizzies (Impatiens Walleriana). Last year many plants were lost to Impatien downy mildew. Soil and spore contamination could spread the disease from year to year. Throughout the nursery trade a
